There Are ‘Parts’ In All Of Us
Sometimes I Feel Like A Different Person…
And that’s because you are! A multi-faceted one at that.
Completing clinical resource therapy training has been a game-changer for me in understanding the different ‘sides’ to people’s personalities and understanding their function.
Ever wondered why you felt ‘distant’ and ‘cut-off’ when things became tough? What about intensely angry about something that seems “childish” or “not a big deal” to others? Parts work involves understanding that people hold different ‘parts’ of their personality and that these parts have values, functions and behaviours of their own. By incorporating ‘parts’ work with EMDR and psychoeducation - I have been able to introduce increased self-compassion to clients into the therapy room and most importantly - long after they leave.
To work with parts is to acknowledge and introduce client’s to understand their own ‘survival’ function and to acknowledge shame that often presents in the room. The remedy to shame is self-compassion and shame is a powerful driver when considering behaviour change. Address the shame - validate your client’s behaviours borne out of survival and empower them to know they are worthy of love, respect and compassion. I challenge you to then observe the magic that happens in the therapy room.
*Clinical Resource Therapy is a specific training course not offered by Bridge Back EMDR and Consulting. The aim of introducing parts work during supervision is to engage a level of awareness for the Practitioner which will then influence and impact their understanding of client’s behaviour and resistance.
