Yoga has a long history of spiritual development practices to train our minds and bodies for mindfulness and self-awareness, originating centuries ago from India.
So what do these Yogis and Yoginis greet the sun for? The added health benefits from yoga is a long list - with some of the benefits including cardiovascular health, improved digestive system, easing of muscle tension, increased ability to soothe the nervous system which in turn can impact symptoms such as anxiety, depression, fatigue and energy levels. All of which, most of our clients suffer from!
The difference with yoga nidra? There’s no physical limits on completing a move. Yoga Nidra comes from the sanskrit meaning of “yoga” - pointed awareness and “nidra” - sleep - which makes this perfect for clients who can benefit from increased focus, mindfulness, grounding and improved sleep.
“As you sit in your chair, facing me - tilt your face to the sun streaming through the window. Allow the golden rays of the sun to fill your face, your shoulders, your stomach, down to your feet rooted in the ground of Mother Earth….It is here that I invite you to set your intentions”
Somatic intervention acknowledges that our mind and body are connected; that mental illness is not simply “in our head” but a bodily response to threat and danger which in turn affects our limbic system of our brain in the way that we perceive this threat.
